Steps:

  1. Substitute A(1,2,5)A(1, 2, 5) into Ax+By=0Ax+By=0.
  2. Choose a pair of numbers AA, BB that works.

What you need: n⃗=AB→×AC→\vec{n}=\overrightarrow{AB}\times\overrightarrow{AC}; a point lies in a plane when its coordinates satisfy the equation.

Steps:

  1. AB→=(1,3,−3)\overrightarrow{AB}=(1, 3, -3), AC→=(−1,4,−1)\overrightarrow{AC}=(-1, 4, -1); compute the cross product.

Exercise 10.

What you need: (P)(P) has the form x+2y+2z+D=0x+2y+2z+D=0 with D≠1D\neq1; the distance formula.

Steps:

  1. Set up ∣1+2+2+D∣3=2\dfrac{|1+2+2+D|}{3}=2.
